Smooth out the frosting. I printed out a Sesame Street nameplate and traced it over the fondant. I also used a circle cookie cutter to make a half circle for the top of the sign. As for the letters, I used fondant letter cutters for his name. I am so going to try this. But to make it gluten free, I think I will have to use red sugars for the inside of Big Bird's mouth.
Use brown frosting for this and a very small star shaped tip. Apply frosting to the cupcake using a grass shaped tip. Apply frosting to the cupcake using a small star shaped tip.

Follow her Instagram for more cake inspiration. A few years ago, when I was working as an editor at a children’s magazine, I had to write an article about a cake that would be perfect for any birthday party. Top each cupcake with a pair of eyes, a mouth, and an orange nose. Depending on the size of eyeballs you use, a variety of orange candies could work. I ended up using a plain orange M&M but an orange Runt or an orange pretzel M&M could also work well.
Dye the frosting green. I added just a tiny bit of brown food coloring here too to give green a bit more of an olive hue. The cake is a family favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s delicious, moist, and boasts a great taste that kids love.

I used a variety of pastry tips and round cookie cutters to make these shapes. There is no right or wrong size, just play around with what you have and see what works best for you. Keep in mind that you won’t need fondant mouths for the Big Bird or Cookie Monster cupcakes.
Before you start decorating, you will of course need cupcakes. To make Oscar the Grouch cupcakes, fill a pastry bag fitted with a grass/fur piping tip with green frosting. Cover the surface of the cupcake with fur. Whether you want to make a Sesame Street first birthday cake or a character-inspired cake for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th birthday, these cake ideas will be perfect. These sweet and simple frosted cupcakes by Chef Mommy are great inspiration for DIY decorating. The eyes and Elmo’s nose were made with fondant, and Cookie Monster is eating a mini Chips Ahoy cookie.
I used coordinating greaseproof liners to match the cupcakes. These are just orange colored peanut M&M’s. Buy the big bag of M&M’s b/c the single serving bags will only have 3-4 orange per bag. Wow, so many different details on this cake! Love all of the fondant characters and train!
The cake is made with all-natural ingredients and contains no artificial flavors or preservatives. The icing is made with real butter, cream cheese, and sugar. The cake was created by 3-year-old, Ella, and her mother.

After scouring the web for inspiration, here are my very favorite Sesame Street cakes and cupcakes. Before you frost any of the cupcakes, get all your pieces together by making some sets of eyes and mouths out of fondant. If you have never worked with fondant before, don’t be scared! It’s really just like playing with Play-Doh. You can use store bought or homemade fondant.
